Keanu Reeves Chooses Wisely, Rejects Doing Sequels
Though it's certainly easy to ape Keanu Reeves' very specific on screen image ("I am an FBI...agent"), the truth, over time, has become a little more difficult to accept for a lot of us. And that truth is: He's made some pretty good flicks. The original Matrix, Constantine, Thumbsucker, A Scanner Darkly...these have become more the rule than the exception for Reeves. Like every other actor in Hollywood, he still flirts with garbage to make money, but The Lake House is the only thing close to a really commercial movie he's made in five years, with apologies to his new cop movie, Street Kings.
Believe me, I'm not saying he's a great actor, just that he's made better choices over the span of a few years than someone whose talents are so relentlessly mocked probably would.
Recently, IESB spoke to Reeves and more than likely asked the can't fail junket question, "So what are you working on next?" Reeves said that he wouldn't be doing sequels, not to Constantine, which had been hinted and would be welcome on my end, and not to Bill and Ted or Point Break.
He told the website that there are no characters he's already played that he's interested in returning to. Who knows if shooting back-to-back Matrices ground him down or if he just realizes that there are other ways to make a buck and he'd rather focus on original stories or at least fresher ideas.
In any case, I think it's cool that he won't pop up in Hard Ball 2, and for the record, I hope his stance applies to his band, Dogstar, as well.
