Movie Trailer - The Oscar Nominated Mongol
I'm really looking forward to seeing this film. Mongol has already been nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar and any chance I get to watch a movie from a country that is actually depending on the success of that film, it's really easy for me to get on board.
I don't think we value foreign film enough, not because of subtitles or whatever, but because places like Kazakhstan, where Mongol was produced, don't have the resources to make 300 movies a year. They fully invest themselves in a small number of films and try to make them stand out as much as possible.
The other argument for lining up to see Mongol or any other international film is that you're bound to see new ways of storytelling that are developed by that culture, and great movies are always about their storytelling.
Here's the newest trailer for Mongol, which is a life story of the 12th and 13th Century leader Temudgin.
It's worth noting that when the film showed at Toronto last year, the credits read Mongol, Part I. I'd be extremely curious to see when we get the next installment. Mongol opens this summer, after it completes its festival run.

My favorite thing about this movie is that everyone can see it at the Phoenix Film Festival, April 3-10. Yep. Shameless plug.
